Hats Off to Reading!

Our annual March Into Reading celebration has a hat theme this year: "Hats Off to Reading!" It is in honor of Caledecott Medalist Jon Klassen and his books I Want My Hat Back and This Is Not My Hat. Mr. Drenth kicked off the month with a read aloud with the students. Each day a different class will be Rock n' Reading in a rocking chair in the hall. The School Board and other members of the community have been invited to come in and read to students. The entire school is having a book drive to Stuff the Shelves with children's books. The books will then be distributed to kids through the Charlevoix Community Food Pantry. Our Spring Book Fair will be March 11-14 in the library. The big event comes at the end of the month. If the school can read 500,000 minutes, Mr. Drenth will let top readers try to knock a hat off of his head by throwing a pie! Students can record their reading time and earn extra minutes with the reading calendar.
