Thank You Mr. and Mrs. Joseph!

This past week, every child in the fifth grade was able to choose a new book to take home and read. In celebration of reading, for the third year in a row, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Joseph have purchased a book for all the fifth graders. Teacher Carol Madison selects the new copies and oversees the distribution of the more than sixty titles from a wide variety of genres and interests. The children are able to peruse the books after Mrs. Madison and the kids who have read a particular title, book talk the majority of them. Children then select a book, and after reading it are able to trade it for another book.

At the end of May everyone will be encouraged to bring in the book they chose, tell about it, and exchange it for another. The idea being to read as many as possible. This year's fifth graders swept the March into Reading Challenge. Mrs. Maki's class won the consolation bracket and Mrs. Madison's class won the championship bracket.

This past Friday Mr. Joseph came to school and the kids were able to thank him in person as well as share thoughts on their favorite books. Mr. Joseph was pleased to find out that one of his favorite authors, James Patterson, now writes middle grade books and is also a favorite author of the kids. Thanks Mr. and Mrs. Joseph for putting such great books into our students' hands!
